Karnataka CID Launches Investigation into Belagavi Stripping Case

Belagavi: The Karnataka government has initiated a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe into the alleged stripping and assault case of a 42-year-old woman in Belagavi.

The incident, which took place in Vantamuri village, involved the victim being tied to an electric pole, partially stripped, and assaulted following her son’s elopement with a girl from the same village and community.

The National Human Rights Commission, National Commission for Women, and National Commission for Scheduled Tribes have all taken suo motu cognisance of the case. Thirteen people have been arrested, and a police inspector has been suspended. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed confidence in the Karnataka police’s capabilities and stated readiness to involve any investigating agency if needed.

The officials of NHRC have also visited Belagavi said, sources. The issue has initiated a political slugfest, both Congress and BJP are making allegations against each other.
